In the UK, the results of a six-month test of a facial recognition system at London railway stations have been released. From February to July 2026, cameras scanned more than half a million people in an effort to identify wanted criminals and potentially dangerous individuals. During this period, the system produced only one false positive but did not help catch a single wanted person.

Despite these results, the British Transport Police extended the experiment for another four months, expanding it to the London Underground. The primary goal of the project is to improve passenger safety.

At the same time, experts note that such systems process biometric data, meaning their use must be justified, proportionate, and compliant with applicable privacy and data protection requirements.
