Researchers at the London School of Economics are working on the first scientific platform dedicated to studying animal consciousness, with funding of £4 billion. The project will bring together multiple disciplines — from philosophy to neurobiology — and artificial intelligence will focus on translating animal language. In the future, this could allow for an analysis of pets’ needs based on their behavior, sounds, and other signals. A key part of the initiative is the inevitable development of ethical and legal frameworks to better regulate interactions between AI and dogs, cats, and other wonderful creatures.
